Put Your Game Face On

My friends who know me know that I am the biggest fan of make-up! Whether it’s LANCÔME, BOBBI BROWN, MAC, REVLON, CHANEL, ESTÉE LAUDER, MAX FACTOR, BOURJOIS, LANCASTER, GIORGIO ARMANI, THE BODY SHOP, CLINIQUE, L´OREAL, RIMMEL, MAYBELLINE! I love make up! My personal make-up bag looks a little like this.

I especially love foundation, mascara and lip gloss! Getting ready in the morning is like 5th grade art class. So many colours, so many brushes. A lot of my girlfriends constantly ask me to do their make-up for special occasions or even just for fun! Most of them don’t do it themselves because they say, and I quote, I don’t know where to start! So let’s start at the beginning.

What do you like most about your face? which parts do you want to emphasise? Personally, it’s my eyes and my lips.

Let’s start with basic eye make-up.

Eye shadow the coloring that goes on your lids. You can use one to three colors in complimentary shades, depending on how dramatic an effect you want to create.  Eyeshadow comes in;

  • Powders in compact cases
  • Creams in stick or pencil form
  • Paints in tube form that go on creamy but dry to a powdery texture.

For a natural look use a colour closest to your skin colour for the base. Apply this to your entire eyelid.

Then apply a highlighter to the inner corners of your eye (gold if you’re dark-skinned or silver if you’re fair.)

Then using a black PENCIL liner (pencil is easier than liquid liner) draw a line on the upper eyelid as close to the lashes  as possible.

Finish off your eyes with a coat (or two) of black mascara. Et voila

Go Ahead, Judge That Book By Its Cover

It’s about time that people realised that we live in as superficial world. It’s true, society is more concerned with the outward appearances that what’s “within.” Whether you agree with it or not is regardless because you still live in this society.

One of the worst idioms in the english language is; “never judge a book by its cover.” I think that’s absolute rubbish. Or how about; “don’t judge them on appearances.” Bollocks, that’s what it is. How else I am supposed to judge you? It’s not as if your winning personality comes out when I first lay eyes on you> Let’s be realistic now please.

Okay now. Let me let you in on a little secret.  This a scientifically tested fact. It’s gonna blow your mind. C’mon, scoot a little closer. Are you ready? PEOPLE JUDGE AND CATEGORIZE YOU WITHIN THE FIRST FIVE SECONDS OF MEETING YOU. Before you even have the opportunity to dazzle them with your smile or charm them with you winning personality people have already made certain assumptions about you BASED ON HOW YOU LOOK! Don’t believe me? Have a look at these preppy kids …

You would probably judge them as self-obsessed maybe? Image Conscious? Bourjeois maybe? ANd this is without knowing what kind of person they are!

Or how about this picture

She’s obviously airheaded right? A label-wh*re? Or maybe a sl*t? Whatever you may think about her, it’s all based on her APPEARANCE?

You don’t need to be a prep or a label wh*re if that’s not who you are. To make a good first impresseion you just have to look polished. Look as if you actually though out you look.

“If you want to dress to feel as though you never got out of bed, then don’t get out of bed.”  – Tim Gunn

Try a classic boot-leg fitted jeans with scuff-less shoes and a crisp, ironed, white shirt. Instant class. Wear a little make up. Nothing too hectic if that’s not you. You only need 3 things;

Mascara

Blush

Lipgloss

And you’re set!

Lastly, let me just say that even though I believe that outwards looks are imperative, you should also have a winning personality to go with it. Often times peolpe say to me; “you’re not as big of a b*tch as I thought you were” or “I honestly though you were just an airhead.” I overdress everyday. It’s the girly girl in me and people judge me by it. Most definitely. Often times they appreciate what they see everyday and if I’m honest, I love the attention. But when I meet people, I let the real Miss Zanna come out. I win them over by being me.

So go ahead, just judge that book by it’s cover, but also take the time to open it and check out the contents. It may just surprise you.

Bizou me cherie!
